e-Did 1 Description and User Manual e-Did 1 connects to the video input of a television set or any other display monitor that accepts composite signals. The color system is PAL (with NTSC available on demand). e-Did 1 is a small hand-held CCTV that can be guided across any body of text, with that text being magnified on a display screen. The magnification range can be adjusted through the device’s OSD (On Screen Display) menu between x1 and x2 in 8 steps; however, the magnification is about x25 to x50 on a 21” screen. The camera’s focus is fixed and further adjustment is not required. The camera’s illumination allows the device to be used regardless of the lighting quality of the user’s surroundings; this is especially advantageous in the low-lit reading environment many visually impaired readers prefer. As the camera is very close to the reading surface, some of the adjustments referred to in page 2 of the menu will be disabled. The most practical adjustments are: zoom, positive/negative, W/B and Iris. Accessories include battery charger, video cable and shoulder bag. Use of e-Did 1 is intuitive, although the speed of reading depends on the experience of reader. There are 5 small push button switches on e-Did 1, corresponding to: up, down, right, left and enter. When pushing and holding enter for three seconds, page 1 of the OSD menu will appear on screen; this page consists of the following: <<< MENU Page1 >>> BRIGHTNESS CHROMA TINT SHARPNESS EXIT (Page2, Preset) You can change the position of the cursor by using the up and down buttons. When the cursor is located next to an item, you can adjust it by using the right and left buttons. When the cursor is next to EXIT, pushing the right button changes it to Preset and pushing left button changes it to Page 2. If the user pushes enter when it shows Preset, all of the items on Page 1 adjust to the factory setting, and if the user pushes enter when it shows Page 2, they will be directed to Page 2 of OSD. On Page 2, they will find the following items: <<< MENU Page2 >>> IRIS ELC (ALC) SHUTTER (OFF, 1/100~1/12000) AGC 18dB (12dB, OFF) W/B ATW (AWC, FIX) MIRROR OFF (ON) BLC ON (OFF) Posi/Nega Posi (Nega) ZOOM OFF (ON) EXIT (Page1 , Preset) Less experienced users are recommended to adjust the items as follows: IRIS ALC SHUTTER OFF AGC OFF W/B ATW MIRROR OFF BLC OFF Important Adjustments: People with poorer vision tend to prefer viewing texts in negative (meaning white text on a black background). When the cursor is next to Posi/Nega, the user can use the right or left buttons to change the polarity of the pictures to either Negative or Positive. When the cursor is located next to the ZOOM, the user can change the status to either ON or OFF using right and left buttons. When ZOOM is ON, pushing enter allows the user to go to the ZOOM sub-menu. Through this sub-menu, magnification can be increased by pushing the right button or decreased by pushing the left button. There are eight steps of magnification. By selecting W/B and changing it to FIX or AWC, background color and text color can be adjusted by changing the polarity to Negative. The EXIT option remains the same as on Page 1. All adjustments will be saved, even after the device is turned off, when the menu is exited (by pushing the EXIT button).
